These fertilizers are coated with a special biodegradable membrane which guarantees a controlled and balanced release of the nutrients as time passes. In contact with the substratum the moisture enters the membrane solubilizing the nutrients inside which are released step by step. As the temperature rises the nutrient release happens more rapidly and is quite independent from other parameters (moisture, pH etc.).
